🔎 Answers in Discoverable Servers are getting easier to find on the web
If you’ve ever searched for a speedrun trick or a boss guide and wished you could find the answer someone already gave in a Discord server, this one’s for you. Here’s what’s changing for Discoverable Servers.
What's changing
Discoverable Servers have 1K+ members, and their admins chose to list them in Server Discovery so anyone can join them with no invite link needed. Soon, they’ll be easier to find on the web, so people can find answers and jump right into the community they came from.
How it's rolling out
- Nov 16: Every Discoverable Server that doesn’t already have a Server Web Page will get one. Server Web Pages may also start showing summaries of discussions in public channels.
- Mid-December: If a server’s admins allow it, some messages from public channels can start appearing on Server Web Pages and in web search. It’s rolling out gradually, so it may be a few weeks before the first ones appear.
Quick TLDR - You're in control of your messages
- Private servers, DMs, and group DMs are not part of this. This only applies to Discoverable Servers.
- Usernames and avatars are not shown next to messages.
- Channels where content may appear on the web will be labeled, so you'll know before you send a message.
- Messages you sent before mid-December won’t be shown on the web.
- Don't want your messages shown? Turn it off anytime in User Settings > Data and Privacy. One switch covers every Discoverable Server you're in.
Heads up - that setting covers your individual messages. Channel Summaries are separate and controlled by each server's admins. If you're in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, or South Korea, this setting is off by default. Users in the teen age group are excluded from Channel Messages until they’re an adult.
